Cooking Directions:
This recipe is for original chewy licorice made with actual licorice root. There are many therapeutic benefits to eating this candy, aside from the fact that it tastes wonderful. For the first step, you will want to take out a medium size saucepan, and heat it over low. Next add in the molasses, licorice root powder, and anise seed powder. Mix up these ingredients vigorously, until they are well blended and even. Once the licorice batter is warm, add in the flour, and again stir the mix vigorously until you have a pliable dough. Next clear and clean a surface in your kitchen, and gently dust it with the icing sugar. Next remove the saucepan from the burner, and let it cool down. Once it's cool, pour it onto the counter, and start working the dough. From here start rolling licorice tubes. Once all of your dough has been used, cut the tubes into desired licorice sizes. Finally roll the finished cut pieces in the icing sugar, and then set them aside to harder for a couple of hours. To expedite this candy setting process, refrigerate them for one hour. Store the licorice in a sealed glass candy jar at room temperature. We hope you enjoy this recipe, be sure to look through our many other candy recipes.
